What is it like to volunteer in New Idea Foreign Language School ?
The school is located in Kampongkdei village, Cambodia. Kampongkdei is the name of a village which is 60KM away from Siem Reap city to the east. It is well known by many peoples as it a small area with an ancient bridge that was built at the same time as AnkorWat. The school is just 400 meters from the bridge. The school provides English language and computer lessons to the students in this area. Besides English and computer teaching, the school also provides life skill training to the students such as home gardening and peace building programs.
You can provide English class to kids from 5 to 12 years old and/or you can help teach English and computer skills to adults students from local high school in the evening from 5 pm to 7 pm.
You will learn more about Cambodia and our people through your conversation in the classroom.
At the weekend you can go to the villages nearby the school discover the culture, enjoy the views in the countryside of Cambodia. You have opportunity to share your skills for changes.
We always rent a room that is around the school for volunteers that is our responsibility and we pay for that. But in case volunteers need a room with air-conditioning, they can stay in a local hotel which is 15$ a day. We could not pay for the local hotel. Volunteers have to pay for meals by themselves, the school has a kitchen where volunteers can cook fresh food.
Maximum 3-4 hours a day, 5 days a week
At the end of your stay don't forget to share your experience on Workaway: new volunteers will come and help us develop all our projects !
