History of New Idea
by Sokear - Founder of the school
'' My name is Sokear Bun and I am the founder of New Idea Foreign Language School Cambodia. I was graduated in a degree of Business Administration in the field of General Management in 2011 from Build Bright University in Banteay Meanchey province of Cambodia. I have more than 10-year experiences in different fields of social development with many non-governmental organizations in relation to Education, Child Right and Child protection, Violence against Women and Children, Food security and Nutrition, Income Generation, Vocational training, and Agriculture Cooperatives.
The Organizations I used to work for were:
- Buddhism For Development
- Télécoms Sans Frontieres
- Khmer Buddhist Association
- World Vision Cambodia
- Heifer Cambodia
- Investing in Children and their Societies
In 2014, I was employed by a non-governmental organization called ICS (Investing in Children and their Societies) to work in Chikraeng district where the school is now. My main missions were to facilitate parents and caretakers to receive the training on how to bring up their children in positive ways. After finishing my work contract in 2015, I sat up New Idea Foreign Language School, officially registered in One Window Service of Chikraeng district. With a population of more than a million, the district is located in Siem Reap province. It is about 60km from the center of Siem Reap city to the east and the school is situated in Kampongkdei village, Kampongkdei commune.
The school is opened for 7 years now. New Idea has 9 employees in total : a school director, 4 teachers, 2 Cleaners, and 2 school van drivers, including former students of New Idea School. At the moment New Idea has 138 students aged from 6 to 13 years old from primary schools of remote villages approximately 20 to 25km far from the center. As a consequence of the COVID crisis, our school is facing many challenges. The global rising of the prices (diesel for the school vans, renting, utility expenses) utterly impacts us. We have at heart to maintain low and reasonable school fee charges for the low economic families. Therefore the school fee paid by the families only covers the staff salaries. That is why, to cover the other expenses, the school would need extra donations to operate smoothly.''
